Seven police officers were reportedly injured during campaign activities by the National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate in Kawempe North and South on Monday, 24 November 2025, police have confirmed.
According to a statement from the police, prior to the campaign, law enforcement and the Electoral Commission met with the candidate’s organizing committee to agree on venues and routes.
However, violence erupted when security officers were attacked with stones at the NUP headquarters, and the attacks continued at Bwaise Roundabout and the campaign venue.
“Currently, seven security officers have sustained serious injuries. Several security vehicles were also damaged by the crowd, including an ambulance,” police said.
In response, security personnel deployed public order measures to control the rowdy crowds, and seven suspects have been arrested in connection with the incidents.
“We strongly condemn the hooliganism displayed today and stress that such behaviour is unacceptable. It will be met with firm action,” the police statement added.
The police have appealed for calm and warned that any acts of violence against security personnel during campaign activities will not be tolerated.
