A suspected electricity vandal has died after becoming trapped while attempting to dismantle a high-voltage power transmission tower in Nakapinyi Village, Kasenge Parish, Nama Subcounty, Mukono District.
The incident is believed to have occurred during the night of November 18th and 19th, 2025, when a group of unidentified individuals targeted a tower linked to the Namawojolo power sub-station.
During the act, one of the vandals became caught between the tower’s angle bars and died instantly. His body, dressed in a blue overall, was later found hanging from the structure. Another tower about half a kilometre away also suffered damage in the attempted vandalism.
ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, confirmed the incident and outlined the ongoing investigations.
“Preliminary findings indicate that the deceased was part of a group cutting the high-voltage tower structure, and he became fatally trapped during the collapse attempt,” Owoyesigyire said.
A case has been registered at Mukono Police Division, and a joint team of Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) and police officers have examined the scene.
Statements have been recorded from residents, photographs taken, and task teams are pursuing leads to identify and arrest the remaining suspects involved in the act.
Efforts are underway to safely retrieve the body for a post-mortem examination and proper identification. Police are also working to establish the motive behind the vandalism and ensure that all culprits are brought to justice.
No injuries have been reported among residents, and authorities are urging the public to report any information that could help identify the other suspects involved.
