The Masaka East Police Region has successfully arrested four individuals and impounded more than 40 motorcycles suspected to be stolen during a targeted operation in Nyendo Mukungwe.
The crackdown comes after a series of murders linked to motorcycle thefts, where riders were killed and their motorcycles stolen.
Twaha Kasirye, Greater Masaka Regional Police spokesperson, said the operation focused on lodges and garages thought to be involved in illegal dealings.
“Police conducted raids at Kibata Guest House in Misaali and Copra Guest House in Kayirikiti, leading to the arrest of four suspects and the recovery of over 40 motorcycles suspected to have been stolen,” Kasirye confirmed.
The recovered motorcycles are now secured at Nyendo Police pending verification to determine their rightful owners. Authorities have called on the public to assist by reporting any suspicious activity, aiming to prevent further violent thefts in the region.
