The Inspector General of Police, Abas Byakagaba, has appointed SP Rachael Kawala as the new spokesperson for the Kampala Metropolitan Police, replacing SSP Patrick Onyango.
Before her appointment, Kawala served as the Wamala Regional Police Spokesperson, where she gained recognition for her professionalism and effective communication.
SSP Onyango has served as the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson for eight years, having returned to the position in 2018 after a brief transfer in 2016. He is credited for strengthening police–media relations during his tenure.
Kawala will now take over the metropolitan spokesperson role, deputised by ASP Luke Owoyesigyire.
In the same reshuffle, Lamek Kigozi, has been appointed to replace Kawala as the Wamala Regional Police Spokesperson.
