Police in Nebbi District say they have arrested a suspect in connection with the theft of a motorcycle after deploying a sniffer dog to trace the offender.
The suspect, Morgan Munguryek, is in custody over allegations of stealing a motorcycle belonging to Jakisa Emmy Saviour.
According to police, the theft was reported on January 26, 2026, after the victim discovered that his motorcycle had disappeared from where it had been parked.
“Preliminary investigations reveal that on 26th January 2026, the complainant woke up and discovered that his motorcycle had been stolen,” police said in a statement.
The case was registered under SD Reference 15/27/01/2026, prompting police to deploy a canine unit to the scene.
“A team of officers, led by a dog handler, promptly responded to the scene of crime, which was found to be well preserved,” police noted.
Police said the sniffer dog, T/P 237 Pablo, picked up a human scent and tracked it for about 80 metres, leading officers to an area where a motorcycle handle had been dumped.
“The tracking continued to a nearby residence, where the dog led officers to a pit latrine in which the suspect was found hiding,” the statement reads.
Munguryek was arrested and taken to Nebbi Police Station, while the recovered handle was secured as an exhibit.
Police said investigations are ongoing.
