Police have arrested Hon. Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi, the NUP Buganda region president and Butambala County MP, over recent incidents of political violence in Butambala District.
Confirming the arrest, Katonda Region Police spokesperson Lydia Tumushabe said he’s currently in police custody and we’ll be aligned before court.
“The Uganda Police Force would like to confirm the arrest of the Butambala County legislator, Hon. Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi. He is currently in police custody and will be arraigned before court in due course. His arrest is in connection with recent incidents of political violence in Butambala,” she said.
Police have not provided further details on the specific allegations but said investigations are ongoing.
Kivumbi’s detention is likely to draw attention from opposition supporters and political observers, given his prominent role in the NUP.
