One suspected armed robber was shot dead and two guns recovered following a swift police operation in Masaka rural, after a daring daylight robbery in Kyotera District.
According to police, five armed robbers attacked Mazima Bugaga Coffee Factory in Kifuda Village, Kyotera District, at around 1:37 PM on July 22, 2025. The suspects, moving on two motorcycles and armed with two rifles, allegedly robbed Kaggwa Andrew of UGX 50 million in company funds.
Following the robbery, the victim immediately alerted police, prompting officers under the command of the Kyotera District Police Commander (DPC) to respond and begin pursuit of the suspects, who were heading toward Masaka.
The operation, conducted in coordination with the regional police team led by the Regional Police Commander (RPC) Masaka East, his CID and CI officers, and supported by the DPC Masaka Rural, resulted in the interception of the suspects at Kizigo Village.
A shootout ensued, leaving one suspect “put out of action,” while two guns and one motorcycle were recovered.
“We thank the team, the community, and the police at large for the cooperation that led to a successful operation,” said ASP Twaha Kasirye, the Greater Masaka Regional Police Spokesperson. “This is a strong message to criminals that we will pursue them relentlessly.”
Kasirye condemned acts of criminality and urged the public, especially the youth, to focus on productive ventures instead of engaging in armed robbery.
“We advise the Wana-Inchi [ordinary people], especially the youth, to take part in development activities instead of committing crimes that ruin lives,” he said.
The deceased suspect’s body was taken to Masaka Regional Referral Hospital for post-mortem, and investigations into the incident are ongoing. Police say the names of the suspect shot and others still on the run will be released after the ongoing operation concludes.
